Visit to FPL Substation by EPS

On March 29,2016, EPS team visited the FPL Substation at Meter Technology Center Arranged by Dr. Arif Sarwat and FPL’s Engineering Leader, Mr. Eduardo Niezen, the team comprising 10 students were shown around the substation facility to give us a deeper insight into the different connected components of the grid at the distribution level. The team learnt about the various mechanisms and protection schemes employed in the transformers, circuit breakers, and capacitor banks. The FPL team also made aware the team of the dangers and several intricacies involved related to the security of the facility. The team also got to know about how data is collected by the Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and is relayed to the command and control center. A few photos from the substation tour are provided below.
